The Hunger Games
The Hunger Games. Never read the novel before but went to see the movie on its opening day (22/3/12).
In short, it's about how a boy and girl from each of the 12 districts gets pick to enter the Hunger Games where they will fight till the death. Basically, it's a game of death between the 12 with only 1 survivor. They will be sent into a forest (digitally controlled i think) where they will fight and try to survive not just against each other, but against natural disasters and wild beasts too. All of these are shown on television for viewers to see.
The beginning of the movie was quite slow and draggy and it moves at this pace throughout the movie. Because of this, the movie can get a little boring at some parts. Then again, that might be due to the fact that I didn't really understand as I have not read the novel. The movie has little comical moments and the action parts aren't that great. What the movie focus on is the great story and the character's emotions. The main character, Katniss Everdeen (played by Jennifer Lawrence) did an amazing job as the lead. Whether it was her blurness, or her strong character, she did execute well. The movie does try to pull you in as it does let you have a feel of hallucination, fireball shooting at you among the things. It was thrilling at certain scenes. However, the ending does fell a bit hanging.
In a way, the movie does try to suck you into the story and the characters' emotions, and this does pull up the rating of the movie. However, having a great story, it could very well be a much better movie.
Pros: Great story, actors, camera viewpoints and effect.
Cons: A bit draggy, hanging ending.
8/10
